Winner of the 7th Australian Road Safety Award

We are pleased to announce that our 'Get a Grip - Customer On-Board Safety' campaign has been recognised as the Winner of the 7th Australian Road Safety Award for Corporate Fleet Safety.

At Transdev, we are 100% committed to providing our customers with a service that is safe, reliable and comfortable. Safety is our number one priority and customer safety, along with employee safety, is paramount to our business.

Since 2015, to address the growth in customer injuries, the Safety Team at Transdev NSW have been developing and implementing a holistic on-going safety program aims at improving customer safety and ultimately reducing customer injuries. The program is based on implementing a cross-functional team, engaging and working collaboratively with Asset Management, Service Delivery, On Road Assurance as well as Customers Stakeholders and Communications areas of the business to champion customer safety improvements.

We focuse on five key areas for improvement:

IMPROVING INCIDENT INVESTIGATION PROCESSES

A key element in delivering the overall program jigsaw is investigating current processes and how information is fed back into driver education. In implementing this piece of the puzzle, the Safety Team works closely with Service Delivery Managers to ensure that customer injury / incidents are investigated thoroughly including the review of CCTV footage to ensure performance breaches are addressed and good safety behaviour recognised and encouraged.

UNDERTAKING DRIVER MONITORING TO REVIEW SAFE DRIVING BEHAVIOURS

Working proactively with the On Road Assurance Team to lift the quality of driving is identified as an important part of this overall program. By identifying drivers at fault and conducting on road assessments, the Safety Team aim to reduce customer injuries by addressing driver behaviour as part of injury prevention.

INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS AND DRIVER EDUCATION ON INJURY PREVENTION

The Safety Team also as part of the project, engage the Customer and Communications Team’s support to increase the number and quality of communications to drivers on the subject of injury prevention. Targeted communication activities are deployed around identified cause and effect areas across all depots to our front-line team members.

IMPLEMENTING A CUSTOMER SAFETY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Another key part of the jigsaw in addressing and reducing customer injuries is educating customers of the role they play in ensuring and taking responsibility for their own safety. Following on from this, the Safety Team with Customers and Communications implement a targeted campaign with the primary aim of increasing customer awareness on the importance of holding on to bus hand rails to reduce customer injury.

REVIEWING NEW FLEET FOR IMPROVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Lastly, the Safety Team also undertake a unique partnership approach with BusTech (bus manufacturer) in reviewing a new bus build and rollout. During this review, the team identify a number of areas within the new bus design, where improvements could be made for customer safety. Transdev NSW then work with the bus manufacturer to implement the fleet improvements, which assist the overall improvement of customer on-board safety in the industry.

We believe that the work we carry out at Transdev touches the lives of our family, firends and future generations alike. Our commitment to safely helping move millions of people across our services is what we truly take pride of.
